AFL Round 19: Essendon vs. Brisbane Lions
On Saturday 8th, August, 2009, members from Đoàn A Nô Ma and Ni Liên were among a crowd of 41,636 fans who attended the thrilling match between Essendon and the Brisbane Lions at the MCG. Sitting behind the goal posts (although from the very top level), we had the opportunity to see the likes of Brown, Fletcher, McPhee, Lovett-Murray and Bradshaw tackle each other across the ground and attempt to kick the footy through the big sticks. Unfortunately, all the action was happening up the other end of the ground! That didn't seem to stop any of us from getting into the game, woo-ing and boo-ing as the ball was kicked from player to player.
The scores remained agonisingly close throughout whole duration of the match, with the lead changing at every quarter. Eventually, a miraculous mark taken by Bradshaw (BL) in the dying seconds of the game allowed the Lions to have one last kick after the siren to draw the game! Final scores: Essendon 13. 9. 87 to Brisbane 12. 15. 87.
So, you can say that no one left the ground as losers (or winners - but we're half-full people!)...
A big thank-you to Hands For Hope and the Essendon Football Club for providing us with the tickets. It was a successful and thoroughly entertaining event!
